Disclaimer

This Disclaimer applies to Exact Barcode, available at ExactKBTools.com, including its barcode generators, validators, scanners, check-digit tools, bulk-processing utilities, CSV tools, label and printing tools, barcode reference pages and educational guides. Exact Barcode is designed to help users create and work with barcode data, but the website is not an official barcode-number issuer, certification laboratory or substitute for professional verification where formal compliance is required.

The tools on this website are intended to be practical and transparent about what they can and cannot determine. A barcode can be mathematically valid, correctly rendered and still be unsuitable for a particular retailer, marketplace, printer, packaging process or regulated supply chain.

Exact Barcode Does Not Issue Official Barcode Numbers

Exact Barcode can generate a barcode image from a number or value supplied by the user, but it does not assign ownership of that number. Creating a barcode graphic does not create an official GTIN, UPC, EAN, company prefix or other registered identifier.

If your business needs an officially assigned product identifier, you are responsible for obtaining it through the appropriate authorized standards or issuing organization. Exact Barcode should be used to work with identifiers you are entitled to use, not as a replacement for official number allocation.

A Valid Check Digit Does Not Prove Registration

Several barcode formats use check digits to detect certain data-entry errors. Exact Barcode can calculate or verify supported check digits, including those used with GTIN structures, but that calculation only confirms mathematical consistency.

A number can have the correct length and check digit while still being unassigned, assigned to another organization or inappropriate for the product where you intend to use it. Check-digit validity should therefore never be treated as proof of ownership, registration or commercial authorization.

Barcode Validation Has a Defined Scope

The Barcode Validator checks structural characteristics that the tool supports, such as permitted characters, expected length and applicable check digits. A successful result means that the value passed those checks; it does not mean that every business or technical requirement has been verified.

The validator does not independently confirm product identity, ownership, database registration, retailer acceptance or compliance with every industry specification. Those questions may require an official registry, current standards documentation or a separate professional verification process.

Generated Barcode Images Are Not Automatically Certified

Exact Barcode can create barcode artwork for supported formats, but generating an image is not the same as certifying the final physical barcode. The website does not perform laboratory-grade verification of print contrast, modulation, edge quality, dimensional accuracy or every other characteristic that may be measured by professional verification equipment.

For routine use, a generated barcode may be perfectly suitable after proper testing. For regulated packaging, high-volume manufacturing or contracts that require formal verification, the final printed symbol should be checked using the verification process required by that application.

On-Screen Appearance Is Not the Final Print Result

A barcode that looks sharp on a monitor can still fail after printing. Printers reproduce bars using physical dots, ink or thermal elements, and the final result can be affected by resolution, scaling, paper quality, ribbon quality, toner spread, ink bleed and mechanical alignment.

Browser zoom, print-dialog scaling and “fit to page” options can also change the barcode's physical dimensions. For that reason, you should judge important barcodes from the final printed sample rather than from the browser preview alone.

Barcode Size Matters

Reducing a barcode until it fits a small empty space can make its bars and spaces difficult to reproduce accurately. Different barcode types have different dimensional requirements, and scanner performance can deteriorate when a symbol becomes too small or is distorted.

The Barcode Size Calculator can help with planning, but its result should be used as part of a real printing workflow rather than as a guarantee of compliance. If a specific customer, retailer or industry standard provides dimensional requirements, those requirements take priority.

Quiet Zones Must Be Preserved

Linear barcodes normally require clear space around the symbol so a scanner can distinguish the barcode from nearby graphics, text or packaging edges. Cropping this space or placing other elements too close to the bars can reduce scanning reliability even when the encoded data itself is correct.

Exact Barcode may preserve suitable spacing in generated artwork, but users can alter that result after downloading or placing it into another design. If you resize, crop or edit a barcode externally, you are responsible for ensuring that necessary quiet zones remain intact.

Colour and Contrast Can Affect Scanning

Barcode readers rely on sufficient optical contrast between the bars and the background. Decorative colour combinations that look attractive to a person may not provide a reliable signal to a scanner.

Dark bars on a light background are generally easier to work with than unusual colour combinations, but the suitability of any specific print depends on the scanner, material and printing process. Exact Barcode does not certify the optical performance of a chosen ink, label stock or package design.

Barcode Scanner Results Depend on the Source

The Barcode Scanner attempts to decode supported barcode formats from camera input or images. Its ability to read a barcode depends on factors such as focus, lighting, image resolution, angle, glare, damage and browser or device support.

A failure to decode does not automatically prove that the barcode is invalid, and successful decoding does not prove that the identifier belongs to the product being scanned. The scanner reads the encoded value where possible; it is not a universal product-authentication service.

Exact Barcode Is Not a Product Database

A barcode number by itself does not always provide a product name, manufacturer, price or current retail record. Exact Barcode does not operate a complete global database capable of identifying every UPC, EAN or other barcode used around the world.

When a tool returns an encoded value, that value should be treated as the information read from the barcode rather than a verified commercial product record. Product identity may need to be confirmed through the relevant owner, retailer, registry or authorized database.

Bulk Generation Can Multiply Source Errors

The Bulk Barcode Generator is useful when many barcode values need to be processed together, but automation also means that one incorrect source list can produce many incorrect outputs quickly. A tool can reproduce the data it receives accurately without knowing whether that business data was correct in the first place.

Review warnings and test a representative sample before using a large batch in production. This is particularly important when the output will be applied to products, inventory, shipments or customer-facing labels.

CSV Processing Does Not Validate Your Entire Database

The CSV Barcode Generator can read supported values from a selected CSV column and generate barcodes from them. It does not audit the entire spreadsheet for business accuracy, duplicate product assignments, obsolete identifiers or errors in unrelated columns.

Selecting the wrong source column can also produce valid-looking barcodes from the wrong data. Before processing a production CSV, confirm the selected column, barcode format and source values.

Label Maker Output Still Requires a Print Test

The Barcode Label Maker can help arrange barcodes into printable layouts, including supported page and label configurations. Its purpose is to simplify layout preparation, not to control every physical characteristic of your printer or label stock.

Printers and browsers can introduce margins, scaling or alignment differences. Print a small test sheet first and compare the physical result with the actual labels before producing a large quantity.

Retailer and Marketplace Rules Are Separate

Companies and platforms can impose requirements beyond the basic barcode format. A marketplace may require officially assigned identifiers, a particular packaging standard or additional product documentation even when the barcode image itself is technically readable.

Exact Barcode does not guarantee acceptance by Amazon, Walmart, eBay, Shopify stores, supermarkets, warehouses, shipping companies or any other platform or organization. You are responsible for checking the current requirements of the organization where the barcode will be used.

Inventory and Internal Barcodes Are Different From Retail Identifiers

Some barcode formats can be useful for internal stock numbers, asset identifiers or warehouse data without representing a globally assigned retail product number. For example, Code 128 can encode a broad range of text and numeric information and is often used differently from UPC or EAN product identifiers.

Choosing a technically supported format does not automatically make it appropriate for a particular external system. Before implementing a barcode workflow, confirm what the receiving software, scanner or trading partner expects.

Editing a Downloaded Barcode Can Change Its Reliability

Barcode files downloaded from Exact Barcode can be inserted into documents, packaging layouts and design software. Resizing, stretching, cropping, compressing or converting the artwork after download can alter the bars, spacing or quiet zones.

Vector output can reduce some scaling problems, but it does not prevent incorrect editing. After a barcode has been modified outside Exact Barcode, the final edited version should be treated as a new output that requires its own testing.

Different Scanners Can Behave Differently

A barcode may scan successfully with one device and less reliably with another. Scanner optics, decoding software, configured symbologies and working distance can all influence the result.

For important applications, test with the actual scanner models expected in the real environment. A successful test using only a phone camera should not automatically be treated as proof that every warehouse or point-of-sale scanner will behave identically.

Exact Barcode Is Not a Standards Authority

Barcode standards are created and maintained by standards organizations and industry bodies, not by Exact Barcode. Our tools and educational pages are intended to make common concepts easier to understand and apply.

Where a formal specification conflicts with a simplified explanation on this site, the current authoritative specification controls. Businesses operating under contractual, regulatory or industry-specific requirements should consult the relevant official documentation.

Guides Are Practical Information

The Barcode Guides explain subjects such as barcode formats, printing problems, check digits, scanning and data preparation. They are written to help users understand practical barcode workflows rather than to replace formal technical standards.

We aim to keep guides accurate and useful, but readers should independently verify requirements that have financial, contractual, regulatory or safety consequences. A guide can explain a principle without knowing every condition of your specific business process.

Browser-Based Tools Can Have Technical Limitations

Many Exact Barcode features run directly in the browser, which allows barcode processing without requiring a paid remote API for every operation. Browser behaviour can nevertheless differ by device, operating system, security settings and software version.

A feature that works in one modern browser may behave differently in another environment. If a workflow is business-critical, test it using the actual devices and browsers that will be used in production.

Camera Features Depend on Browser Permission

Camera-based barcode scanning requires permission from your browser or device. Exact Barcode cannot guarantee that camera access will be available if the browser blocks permissions, the device lacks a compatible camera or another system-level restriction is present.

If camera scanning is unavailable, an image-based workflow may be an alternative where supported. This limitation is related to the device environment rather than evidence that the barcode itself is defective.

Downloads Are Provided for Your Use

Generated PNG, SVG, ZIP or other supported downloads are produced from the data and settings selected by the user. Once the files have been downloaded, Exact Barcode does not control subsequent editing, storage, printing or distribution.

You are responsible for keeping appropriate backups of important output. The site should not be treated as permanent cloud storage for generated barcode files.

No Guarantee of Uninterrupted Availability

Exact Barcode is maintained as an online service, and temporary interruptions can occur because of maintenance, hosting issues, browser changes, security work or software updates. We aim to keep the website available but cannot promise uninterrupted access at every moment.

Do not rely on a free web tool as the only copy of information required for an urgent or critical business operation. Important source data and production files should remain under your own control.

Third-Party Links and Services

Exact Barcode may link to standards organizations, documentation, open-source projects or other external websites when those resources are useful to readers. A link does not mean that Exact Barcode controls the destination website or accepts responsibility for all of its content.

External websites can change without notice and operate under their own policies. Any transaction, registration or reliance on an independent third party is between you and that provider.

Advertising Is Separate From Tool Results

Exact Barcode may display third-party advertising to support the website. An advertisement appearing near a barcode article or tool does not mean that the advertiser's product or service has been tested, certified or endorsed by Exact Barcode.

Tool actions such as Generate, Validate, Download, Scan and Print are intended to remain visually distinct from advertising. If you choose to interact with an advertisement, the advertiser's own terms and policies apply.

No Legal, Regulatory or Business Advice

Exact Barcode provides technical utilities and educational information about barcodes. Content on the site should not be interpreted as legal, tax, regulatory, contractual or professional business advice.

Rules affecting product labelling, packaging, retail identifiers and supply chains can depend on country, industry and commercial agreements. Where legal or regulatory compliance is important, obtain advice or authoritative information appropriate to your situation.

Your Responsibility Before Production Use

For low-risk tasks, a visual review and ordinary scan test may be sufficient for your needs. For important production workflows, a stronger process should include checking the identifier, confirming the barcode format, testing the final printed result and verifying any requirements imposed by the receiving organization.

The appropriate level of testing depends on the consequences of failure. A temporary internal label and a barcode printed on thousands of retail packages do not carry the same level of risk.

Limitation of Responsibility

Exact Barcode is provided as a practical toolset and information resource, and reasonable effort is made to keep its functionality accurate. However, errors can occur in software, source data, printing workflows and external systems.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Exact Barcode and its operator are not responsible for losses resulting from incorrect user data, unauthorized identifiers, printing failures, scanner incompatibility, retailer rejection or reliance on the site where independent verification was reasonably necessary. Nothing in this Disclaimer is intended to remove rights or liabilities that cannot legally be excluded.

Report an Error

If you believe a generator, validator, calculator, scanner or guide is producing an incorrect result, please report the issue through our Contact page. Useful reports should identify the affected page and include a non-sensitive example that allows the problem to be reproduced where possible.

We would rather correct a genuine technical or editorial problem than leave unclear information on the site. You should never send passwords, database credentials or other confidential access information when reporting an issue.
