Terms of Use

Terms of Use

These Terms of Use apply to Exact Barcode, available at ExactKBTools.com, and govern your use of the website, barcode generators, scanners, validators, check-digit tools, bulk-processing tools, printing utilities, guides and other public features. By using the website, you agree to use it responsibly and in accordance with these terms.

Exact Barcode is designed as a practical barcode utility and educational resource. The site can help you generate, inspect and work with barcode data, but it does not replace official identifier assignment, professional barcode verification or industry-specific compliance services.

Using Exact Barcode

You may use the public Exact Barcode tools for lawful personal, educational or commercial purposes. The main tools are available without requiring a public user account, and ordinary use does not require you to purchase a subscription.

You are responsible for the information you enter into the tools and for deciding whether the resulting barcode, calculation or output is suitable for your intended use. Exact Barcode provides the technical function, but it does not control the accuracy of the original data supplied by the user.

Barcode Numbers Are Your Responsibility

Exact Barcode can encode the number or text you provide, but generating a barcode image does not establish that the underlying identifier has been officially assigned. A structurally correct UPC, EAN or GTIN can still be unregistered, assigned to someone else or inappropriate for a particular product.

You are responsible for obtaining any official identifiers required for your business or industry. Exact Barcode does not issue company prefixes, GTINs, UPCs, EANs or other official product identifiers.

Structural Validation Is Not Ownership Verification

The Barcode Validator and related tools may check characteristics such as permitted characters, number length and check digits. A successful validation result means that the supplied value satisfies the structural checks performed by the tool.

It does not confirm who owns the identifier, whether the identifier has been officially issued or whether the barcode is accepted by a retailer, marketplace, warehouse or regulatory body. Where ownership or registration matters, you should verify the identifier through the appropriate official source.

Check Digit Calculations

The Barcode Check Digit Calculator can calculate check digits for supported GTIN structures. These calculations are based on the digits supplied by the user and the algorithm implemented by the tool.

A correct check digit does not make an otherwise unauthorized identifier official. You remain responsible for confirming that the underlying number is appropriate for the product, package or business process where it will be used.

Generated Barcodes

Exact Barcode attempts to generate supported barcode formats according to the rules implemented by the site. The appearance of a barcode on screen does not guarantee that it will scan correctly after printing or in every physical environment.

Scanning performance can be affected by dimensions, quiet zones, printing quality, contrast, resolution, paper, packaging material, surface curvature, scaling and scanner capabilities. You should test important barcodes using the equipment and conditions in which they will actually be used.

Printing and Label Preparation

The Barcode Label Maker and Barcode Size Calculator are designed to help prepare barcode layouts and estimate dimensions. They are practical preparation tools and should not be interpreted as certified barcode-verification systems.

Browser printing settings, printer drivers and automatic scaling can change the physical output. Before printing a large quantity of labels, you should print and test a small sample using the actual printer, labels and scanner involved in your workflow.

Barcode Scanning

The Barcode Scanner attempts to decode supported barcodes from camera input or images when the browser and device allow it. Successful decoding depends on image quality, lighting, barcode condition, camera capabilities and support for the particular barcode format.

The scanner generally returns the encoded information rather than independently verifying the real-world identity of the product associated with it. Exact Barcode does not operate a universal product database that can reliably identify every barcode in circulation.

Bulk Barcode Generation

The Bulk Barcode Generator can process multiple values at once, but you remain responsible for reviewing the source list and generated results. A bulk workflow can reproduce an incorrect value many times if the original data is wrong.

Where the tool identifies invalid rows or unsupported input, you should resolve those warnings before using the output. For important business operations, consider reviewing a representative sample even when no error is displayed.

CSV Barcode Generation

The CSV Barcode Generator can process values from a selected CSV column. You are responsible for selecting the correct file, column and barcode format before generating the output.

Exact Barcode cannot determine whether a spreadsheet contains outdated, duplicated or incorrectly assigned product identifiers simply because the file itself is valid. Review your source data before relying on generated barcodes for inventory, packaging or distribution.

Browser-Based Processing

Many Exact Barcode operations are designed to run inside the visitor's browser. This makes it possible to generate and process barcode data without sending every value to a paid remote barcode-generation service.

Browser-based processing does not mean every aspect of the website operates offline or that no technical information ever reaches our server. The website still requires normal network requests to load, and services such as analytics, advertising and contact forms may operate differently as described in our Privacy Policy.

Downloads and Exported Files

Exact Barcode may allow you to download barcode images, SVG files, ZIP archives or other generated output. Once downloaded, those files are stored and controlled through your device, browser or local storage environment.

You are responsible for maintaining, protecting and using downloaded files appropriately. Exact Barcode is not responsible for files that are altered, renamed, damaged or distributed after they have been downloaded.

No Guarantee of Retailer or Marketplace Acceptance

Retailers, marketplaces, logistics providers and inventory systems can apply their own barcode requirements. A barcode that is technically generated correctly may still be rejected if the underlying identifier, dimensions, label placement or business data does not meet their requirements.

Exact Barcode does not guarantee acceptance by Amazon, Walmart, eBay, Shopify, a supermarket chain, a warehouse system or any other third-party platform. You should check the current requirements of the organization that will receive or scan the barcode.

No Professional Verification Service

Exact Barcode is not a certified barcode-verification laboratory and does not replace professional verification equipment. The tools are intended for generation, structural checking, calculation, scanning and practical preparation.

Where a barcode must meet a formal standard or contractual specification, you should use appropriate professional verification methods. This is especially important for high-volume manufacturing, regulated supply chains and packaging where a failed barcode could cause significant operational problems.

Educational Content

The guides and barcode reference pages on Exact Barcode are intended to explain barcode concepts in practical language. We aim to make this information accurate and useful, but technical standards can change and some subjects may require more detailed official documentation.

Educational content should therefore be treated as general guidance rather than as legal, regulatory or professional certification advice. Where a specific standard controls your application, consult the current authoritative documentation.

Acceptable Use

You may use the website for legitimate barcode-related activities, including product labelling, inventory work, software testing, education and personal projects. Normal automated browser behaviour and ordinary bulk-processing features provided by the site are permitted when used as intended.

You may not deliberately interfere with the website, bypass access controls, exploit security weaknesses, overload the server, attempt unauthorized database access or use the service in a way intended to damage its operation. Security issues should be reported responsibly rather than exploited.

Prohibited Uses

Exact Barcode must not be used to support illegal activity, fraud, deceptive product labelling or unauthorized impersonation of another business or product. You must not intentionally create barcode labels designed to misrepresent ownership, pricing, product identity or authorization.

You are responsible for ensuring that your use of generated barcodes complies with applicable laws, contracts and industry requirements. The ability of the tool to encode data does not grant permission to use that data unlawfully.

Intellectual Property

The Exact Barcode website design, original written content, custom interface, branding and site-specific materials are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. You may use the public tools for their intended purpose, but this does not transfer ownership of the website itself.

Open-source components used by Exact Barcode remain subject to their respective licenses. Information about relevant open-source software is available on our Open Source Licenses page.

Your Own Barcode Data

You retain responsibility for barcode values, product information and other data you enter into the website. Exact Barcode does not claim ownership of ordinary barcode values merely because they are processed by one of our browser-based tools.

You must ensure that you have the right to use any data you supply. If the information belongs to an employer, client or another organization, you are responsible for following the rules that apply to that information.

External Websites

Exact Barcode may link to standards organizations, documentation, service providers or other third-party websites. These links are provided for reference or convenience and do not mean that Exact Barcode controls or endorses every statement made by the destination website.

External websites operate under their own terms, privacy policies and security practices. Your use of those websites is governed by the terms provided by their respective operators.

Third-Party Services

Some functionality associated with Exact Barcode may depend on third-party services such as hosting, analytics or advertising platforms. Those providers operate their own systems and may have separate terms that apply when their services are used.

Exact Barcode is not responsible for outages, policy changes or technical problems that occur entirely within an independent third-party service. Where such a service affects the website materially, we may modify or replace the integration.

Advertising

Exact Barcode may display advertising to help fund hosting, development and maintenance. Advertising is intended to be visually separate from important tool actions such as Generate, Scan, Download and Print.

An advertisement displayed on Exact Barcode is provided by an advertising service and should not automatically be treated as a recommendation or endorsement by Exact Barcode. Any transaction you enter into with an advertiser is between you and that advertiser.

Availability of the Website

We aim to keep Exact Barcode available and functional, but continuous availability cannot be guaranteed. Maintenance, hosting problems, software updates, security events or other technical issues can occasionally make part or all of the site unavailable.

We may change, improve, temporarily disable or remove a feature when necessary for security, reliability or product development. We do not guarantee that every tool or interface will remain unchanged indefinitely.

Tool Updates

Barcode tools may be updated when we improve validation rules, browser compatibility, supported formats or output behavior. Such changes can affect how a tool responds to certain inputs.

If you rely on Exact Barcode for an important recurring workflow, you should verify the output when implementing a new production process. Previous successful use of a tool does not guarantee that every future input or environment will behave identically.

No Warranty

Exact Barcode is provided on an “as available” basis. We aim to provide accurate and useful tools, but we cannot guarantee that every result will be error-free, uninterrupted or suitable for every commercial, technical or regulatory requirement.

You are responsible for checking important output before relying on it. This is especially relevant when barcode failure could cause financial loss, inventory errors, rejected shipments or other operational consequences.

Limitation of Liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Exact Barcode and its operator will not be responsible for indirect, incidental or consequential losses resulting from the use of, inability to use or reliance on the website. This can include losses arising from incorrect source data, failed scans, rejected labels, printing errors or use of an unauthorized identifier.

Nothing in these terms is intended to exclude liability that cannot legally be excluded under applicable law. The practical purpose of this section is to make clear that a free online barcode tool should not be treated as an unlimited guarantee for business-critical outcomes.

Indemnity

Where permitted by applicable law, you agree to be responsible for claims or losses resulting from your unlawful or unauthorized use of the website. This includes situations where you knowingly use Exact Barcode to misrepresent products, identifiers or ownership.

This provision does not make you responsible for problems caused solely by Exact Barcode itself. It applies to misuse or conduct for which you are responsible.

Privacy

Your use of Exact Barcode is also subject to our Privacy Policy. That policy explains which barcode tasks are designed to be processed in the browser, what information may reach our server and how contact, analytics and advertising information may be handled.

The Privacy Policy forms a separate explanation of data practices rather than repeating those details inside these Terms of Use. If the site's data-handling practices materially change, the Privacy Policy should be updated accordingly.

Termination or Restriction of Access

We may restrict access to the website when traffic or behaviour appears malicious, abusive or designed to disrupt normal operation. Security restrictions may be applied automatically or manually where necessary.

Ordinary legitimate use of the public tools does not require prior permission. Restrictions are intended to protect the service rather than prevent reasonable barcode-related use.

Changes to These Terms

These Terms of Use may be updated as Exact Barcode develops or when legal, technical or operational circumstances change. Material changes may include new service types, changes in website ownership, new user-account features or revisions to how important tools are provided.

When the terms are significantly updated, the effective date should be changed. Continued use of the site after an updated version becomes effective means the newer terms apply to subsequent use.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by applicable law, subject to any mandatory consumer or privacy protections that may apply based on your jurisdiction. Nothing in these Terms of Use is intended to remove rights that cannot legally be waived.

If a particular provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions should continue to apply to the extent permitted by law. The unenforceable portion may be interpreted as narrowly as necessary to make it legally effective where possible.

Questions About These Terms

Questions about these Terms of Use can be sent through the Exact Barcode Contact page once the final Contact page is available. Please provide enough information to explain the issue without including passwords, security credentials or unnecessary sensitive information.

For information about barcode-tool limitations, also review our Disclaimer. Privacy practices are explained separately in our Privacy Policy, while information about the project itself is available on the About Exact Barcode page.
